Symphonic Dreams in a Bookstore: The Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra Officially Settles in Yueqingshan Bookstore

In the spring of 2025, the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra officially settled its "home" at Yueqingshan Bookstore near Luhe Middle School in Tongzhou. From Shuangjing in Chaoyang District and the Beijing Music Industrial Park to the sub-center Tongzhou, this five-year-old children's string ensemble completed another significant migration—not merely a change of teaching location, but a weaving together of the fragrance of books and the sound of strings under one roof.

"Love music first, then learn music" — this has always been the philosophy of the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra. And Yueqingshan Bookstore is the most poetic spatial embodiment of this idea. Why a bookstore? In most people's minds, music training institutions should occupy commercial office buildings or professional practice rooms. But Tian Lifu, founder of the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra, has a different vision. "A bookstore itself is a container of culture," says Teacher Tian. "When a child walks into a bookstore, they might be drawn to a book, sit down to flip through it, and then fall in love with reading. Music should have a similar entry point — first experience its beauty, then learn it." Yueqingshan Bookstore is exactly such a place. As children push open the door, they are greeted by neatly arranged books on shelves, soft lighting, and the faint scent of paper and ink. Along the walls, cultural and creative products designed by the Idyllic Symphony team are displayed — the Idyllic Symphony violins, finely crafted instruments that are both musical tools and artworks worthy of contemplation. Music and reading have always been natural companions. Both require stillness, imagination, and the patience to let things settle. New space: rehearsals, lessons, and listening, all here After the relocation, Yueqingshan Bookstore has become the core base of the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra. Here, you might witness scenes like this: in the morning, a group of children sit around a round table, practicing scales with their teacher; in the afternoon, a melodious string sound drifts from between the bookshelves, and passing readers pause to listen; in the evening, the melody of "Canon" echoes from the rehearsal hall, as the setting sun streams through the glass windows onto the strings. This is not an ordinary music classroom, but a space where one can linger, breathe, and slowly fall in love with music. The Idyllic Symphony violins also have a dedicated display area in the bookstore, which also serves as an after-sales service point, making it convenient for students and parents to consult and maintain their instruments nearby. A "finance professional's" musical dream Teacher Tian Lifu, founder of the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra, graduated from Beijing Normal University and worked in the financial industry for many years. By chance, he entered the field of children's music education and has been devoted to it ever since. "I found that many children learn music with great pain because it's too utilitarian," says Teacher Tian. "I wanted to create a different kind of orchestra, one where more children can afford to learn music, and where music becomes a lifelong companion hobby." Teacher Tian's father, Mr. Tian Yuan, is a professor at Beihua University, a retired composer, and a conductor, who now serves as the orchestra's artistic director. The musical passion of two generations continues in this small bookstore. Rooted in Tongzhou, making music education no longer "a privilege for city dwellers" With this philosophy, the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra delivered an impressive report card in 2024: first prize in Beijing at the National Youth Music Literacy Competition, second prize nationally, and multiple first prizes in solo competitions organized by district education commissions. The construction of the Tongzhou sub-center has revitalized the area, but high-quality arts education resources remain scarce. By choosing to place its core base in Tongzhou, the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra aims to fill this gap. "Music education should not be a privilege for the few. The children of Tongzhou deserve music education as good as that in the city center." Welcome to "Yueqingshan" If you are a parent looking for a quiet place for your child to learn music; if you are a reader eager to enjoy a live performance between flipping pages; if you are just passing by, curious about what symphonic dream lies hidden in a bookstore — Welcome to Yueqingshan Bookstore.
