Idyllic Symphony Youth Public Welfare Orchestra · Rehearsal Journal 50 Minutes to Bring a New Piece Together Jinyu International Group A Rehearses "Katyusha" for the First Time · October 16, 2026 Yesterday afternoon, the Jinyu International Group A of the Idyllic Symphony Youth Public Welfare Orchestra rehearsed the new piece "Katyusha" for the first time. From receiving the score to basically playing it together, the children needed only 50 minutes. · · · Thursday night, the scores were only just handed out On Thursday night, the children only just received the music for "Katyusha." From getting the score to rehearsing the next day, there was only one evening in between. For beginners, this meant completing all the preparation—reading the notes, finding the positions, smoothing out the rhythm, and going through their own part once—in an extremely short time. No child was forced to practice—this one evening's work depended entirely on self-discipline. · · · 50 minutes, basically together At Saturday's ensemble rehearsal, from the first run-through to being able to play it through completely took about 50 minutes. Playing a piece that has never been rehearsed together for the first time is not easy for any orchestra: each section must listen to the others, find their entries, control the tempo, and handle dynamics; if anyone is half a beat fast or slow, it immediately falls apart. What's more—the members of Jinyu International Group A are mainly beginners. 50 minutes From the first sight-reading to basically bringing the whole of "Katyusha" together Objectively speaking, "Katyusha" is a relatively simple piece among symphonic works. But for an orchestra mainly made up of beginners and established not long ago, being able to basically play it together in 50 minutes is already a very big improvement. This progress is not any one person's, but the whole orchestra's—everyone prepared their own part, and only then could it come together. · · · One year later Looking at these children, orchestra director Tian Lifu thought of the Idyllic Symphony Children's Orchestra one year ago. A year ago, those children also started as beginners, and also honed their skills one piece after another in the same way. And now, no matter how difficult the piece, they can master it within one lesson. "I believe that one year from now, the children of Jinyu International Group A will be able to do this too." An orchestra's growth is never linear—for the first three months you feel it is so slow that you cannot see any change, but as long as you come to every lesson and seriously work through every piece, one day you will suddenly discover: when a new score is handed out, you look it over, raise the bow, and actually can follow along. That "sudden" is actually accumulated from countless previous lessons. "Katyusha" is the first time this familiar Russian melody has sounded in Jinyu International Group A, but it will not be the last. Looking back one year from now at yesterday's 50 minutes, the children will know—everything started right here.
